Nicole Ari Parker, an American actor who has appeared on film and TV, in addition to in stage productions, is known for portraying Teri Joseph, a fiery attorney in Showtime's Soul Food. Nikki Kodjoe became her stage name upon her marriage. Born and raised within Baltimore Maryland. Contractor was born at Mumbai in India and grew up in Nigeria up until she turned seven. She was already exposed to a lot of travel and different cultures at a very early age. She was educated in the boarding school of London between 7 and 9. Then, the family moved away from London to Toronto, Canada. Contractor trained in classical ballet in Toronto. She was also a star academically. She was a student at the Etobicoke School of the Arts, a specialized public arts high school where she did not only dance but studied theater as well. Contractor, who had been dancing for more than ten years at that time when she decided to concentrate on acting. As soon as she finished high school, she won an entire scholarship to University of Toronto. At the University of Toronto she completed the Master of Arts in Theatre. She also double majored with Psychology and Sociology. Contractor was offered the lead part in Pericles after a one-year stint at the University. She was a part of the audition for the role at Stratford Shakespeare Festival (Ontario Canada) and won. After two weeks of performances, she got praise from the audience. The production was recognized as the best production in Canada by the critics. The conservatory in Stratford takes eight people with four females, along with a couple of other people for a 20 weeks crash course. Contractor's place in the following production was secured, and she was offered the part in the play as Hermia.
